Moor ASB (anti social behaviour) rural crime

The Moors play a large part of policing, the summer months see an increase in visitors, we work alongside Dartmoor National Parks and our Rural affairs team to keep the land as natural as possible. This means dealing with racing vehicles, inclusive of ASB, littering, BBQs, caring for the wildlife, raves and much more.

Issued 01 July 2025

Update: 29 May 2025 - B3417

The B3417 the road which is between Newnham Plympton and Lee Moor has become a race track / show ground for motorbikes. Our Officers are pro actively working with our road safety team, Devon County Council and our Drone team to make a plan for the way forward. We do know that there is a plan to put a safety camera on the road but at this time it is down to whether the Tungsten Mine stays active as they offered funding for a camera.

Ongoing work behind the scenes and active Police presence in the area.

Adult ASB (anti social behaviour) drug and alcohol related

Adult ASB has been a problem in the last six or more months related to alcohol and drugs which in turn causes mental health problems.

The team are pro actively working by being present in the area, working with other agencies, housing, council, our local stores. We are actively arresting suspects involved in shoplifting or causing a breach of the peace.

Issued 01 July 2025

Update: 15 June 2025
We are continuing to take action with some of our prolific offenders, work is going on behind the scenes with Court cases coming up and ongoing case gathering, interviews etc. If we receive some positive updates we will make sure this is shared.

Summer Coastal Crime / ASB

Summer coastal areas become extremely busy as we head towards the summer and better weather. With this we see an increase in Anti social behaviour around South Hams beaches / car parks, estuaries, theft of nautical items, outboard motors etc. Our aim is to be seen, present and approachable.

Issued 01 July 2025

Update: 15 June 2025 - Suspicious Incident

In the last week we were called to a very rural area along the estuary from Mothecombe beach. The estate manager had called in a transit van that was left in a very remote part of the estate. The next day 3 males turned up to try to move the van which they claimed had been lost and broken down. We had some intelligence to suggest illegal activity coming in on boats. Although at this time nothing was found to be untoward the destination was a difficult place to drive too and not on a Satnav, the van was hauled out onto a road nearby and recovered.

If anything hopefully after 4 police units attending this will deter any future problems.
