We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across Devon and Cornwall.

Shoplifting

We will work with our colleagues particularly where children or young people are involved to ensure they are safeguarded as well as being aware of the potential criminality of their actions.
We will deal with prolific thieves using banning letters, civil orders and where necessary the criminal justice system to make them take responsibilities for their actions

March 2026 Update

UKPAC (UK Partners Against Crime) and Auror are collaborating to transform how retail crime is reported and managed in the UK, with Devon and Cornwall Police (DCP) acting as a key partner in adopting this technology. Officers have visited stores to increase awareness and to prevent future offences.

No change from Jan, patrols continue of the high street and built up areas in both Chudleigh and Exminster have taken place in support of our retail outlets. We will continue responding to reports of thefts from our retail community.
