Rural Crime & Engagement

Rural crime is an issue for large areas of the country, but it tends to go unreported. It can impact on insurance premiums, food prices, the environment, and can damage local communities.

The Honiton Neighbourhood Team are conducting a visible presence in the rural community to offer reassurance and crime prevention. The aim is to improve connectivity with the rural communities and provide education to users of our beautiful countryside. This includes attending rural events to gain knowledge about the issues effecting the rural communities and to offer the crime prevention advice.

There has been limited reports in the rural areas. The reports over the past month have been limited to isolated incidents. These do appear at this time to have had an effect on any local communities. However as we are coming into winter, it is likely that there will be an increase in reported incidents such as burglaries, therefore more rural patrols will be conducted to prevent these incidents.

Work around awareness will be done with the rural businesses' and local communities in order to put target hardening in place and awareness of reporting suspicious activity.

Anti-Social Driving & Vehicle Offences
There will be an increased focus on Road Safety within our rural communities to reduce collisions, improve driver behaviours and increase community confidence through visible, intelligence led road policing activity. This will include conducting speed checks in identified hotspot areas, supporting and expanding Community Speed Watch Activity, address vehicle related ASB through engagement and enforcement, and promoting road safety awareness.

Again, August has seen no reports of ASB Driving nor ASB personal/environmental incidents reported to us in Honiton Rural. As a result, this priority will be reviewed for the winter period.
