Appeal after three people assaulted in Teignmouth

Officers are appealing for witnesses and footage following an alleged unprovoked attack in Teignmouth which saw a man hospitalised with serious injuries after coming to the aid of his two friends.

The victims – two men and a woman – were walking through the town near to the taxi rank in Station Road after a night out on Sunday 12 July when they were assaulted by a man between 1am and 1.30am.

It was reported they were approached by a man who began acting aggressively towards the woman and then hit one of the men. When the other man intervened to protect his friends, he fell to ground and was kicked and stamped on.

The attack is reported to have continued up to the junction of Pound Lane near The Jolie Brise Wetherspoon pub. The victim, who is in his 30s, was taken to hospital by a taxi driver and treated for a broken arm, jaw, nose and knee, and a fractured cheekbone. The two other victims sustained minor injuries.

We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and for any dashcam footage from taxis or vehicles in the area at the time of the incident, or any photos/ videos taken by members of the public that can help with our investigation.
