Dear Resident,
We are aware of recent reports of pigeons being deliberately harmed in the local area. We understand these incidents have caused concern within the community and would like to reassure residents that enquiries are ongoing.
We would like to remind everyone that, under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006, it is an offence to deliberately and unlawfully kill or cause unnecessary suffering to wild birds. Anyone found to be committing such offences may be liable to prosecution.
We also ask residents to avoid feeding pigeons and other wild birds in public areas. Whilst often well-intentioned, feeding birds can encourage large flocks to gather, which may lead to public health concerns, increased fouling, and can attract rodents and other pests.
If you witness anyone deliberately harming birds or have any information about these incidents, please report it to Devon and Cornwall Police by calling 101 or via our online reporting service. If a crime is taking place at the time, please call 999.
We appreciate the support of the community in helping to keep our neighbourhood safe, clean and respectful for both our residents and local wildlife.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Kind regards,
The Neighbourhood Policing Team | ||
