Local Priorities Road Safety Issues Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety Issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

On Friday 22nd May 2026 PC Cunningham and PC Nicholls stopped a teenager on an E-Scooter that had been riding on The Ridgeway and surrounding areas on and off pavements, and at times carrying a passenger. The E-Scooter was seized under section 165a of the Road Traffic Act 1988, for not having a valid insurance and the child not holding a valid driving license.

As E-Scooters are classed as motor propelled vehicle, they fall under the same laws as cars, motorcycles, etc and these conditions need to be adhered to.

Unfortunately, you cannot actually get the correct insurance for these E-Scooters and therefore, the scooter will be recovered and then scrapped.

We will continue to take action where we can regarding the use of E-Scooters and illegal E-Bikes and any antisocial behaviour reported to us.
